Welcome to Hike Vail, your one-stop-shop for getting information on hiking in the Vail area! There is a wide variety of trails and experiences that you can have when hiking here. Whether you’re a seasoned Vail hiker or new to the area, we want to help you understand our trails in order to protect and preserve them now and for posterity.

The East Vail trails (Booth Creek, Deluge Lake, Gore Creek, and Bighorn Creek) are getting overwhelmed by visitors and the trails are becoming diminished, so we suggest finding alternatives to these crowded hikes on the trails page. Also, please check out the know before you go page to prepare for your hike and see the parking and transportation page on how you can leave your car behind and take the bus since parking is very limited at many of our trailheads.

HOW YOU CAN HELP OUR TRAILS

You can help by abiding by the regulations posted at the trailheads, and by practicing the following.

Stay on the trail. Walking in the grass or other vegetation kills the vegetation and compacts soil, which increases soil erosion and may result in reduced water quality.

Pack out your trash. Trash left on the trail can last for years and may be eaten by native wildlife or fish species. Trash cans and recycling is available at the trailhead. Restrooms are also located at the trailheads. Plan ahead!

During busy times, explore other trails in the Vail area. There are over a hundred miles of hiking trails in and around the Vail area, many of which do not have the crowding issues that the trails in East Vail have. Use this website to find other great hiking options.

If you do visit during busy time periods, try taking the FREE Town of Vail bus to access the trails.  You’ll avoid the stress of finding a parking spot, and will save money on gas!
